Congratulations to Siti Aldora Salsabila Aprilya, a Bachelor’s student of Biology, Department of Biology, Universitas Padjadjaran, on the publication of her latest article entitled “Bioremediation of lead (Pb)-contaminated soil using Trichoderma: current insights and future perspectives” in Environmental Pollutants and Bioavailability (a Scopus-indexed Q1 journal), under the supervision of Febri Doni, Ph.D. from the Department of Biology, Universitas Padjadjaran.

This article reviews the potential of Trichoderma as an effective and sustainable agent for the bioremediation of lead (Pb)-contaminated soils. It highlights several detoxification mechanisms, including biosorption, intracellular bioaccumulation, biomineralization, and the secretion of organic acids and siderophores, which collectively reduce Pb mobility and bioavailability. The study also discusses key environmental factors affecting remediation efficiency, such as soil pH, metal concentration, and microbial interactions, while emphasizing future research directions, including molecular studies on Pb tolerance, strain optimization, synergistic microbial-plant systems, genetic engineering, and nanobiotechnology to improve scalability and effectiveness.
