Congratulations to Nazla Kayla, a Bachelor’s student of Biology, Department of Biology, Universitas Padjadjaran, on the publication of her latest paper entitled “Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria for controlling rice diseases: What is known and what is next?” in a Scopus-indexed Q1 journal, under the supervision of Febri Doni, Ph.D and Dr. Mia Miranti from the Department of Biology, Universitas Padjadjaran, and in collaboration with Ravindra Chandra Joshi, Ph.D as an international collaborator.

This article reviews the potential of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) as sustainable biocontrol agents to manage major rice diseases. It highlights how PGPR enhance plant growth, suppress pathogens through multiple mechanisms, and activate plant immune responses. The study also addresses current challenges in field application and emphasizes the need for advanced ‘omics-based approaches and stable microbial formulations to support climate-smart and sustainable agriculture.
